Rain and Sun

The 14th, stands out as a particularly soul nourishing day. It was a Thursday, and after my morning yoga and a wholesome home-made granola and berry smoothie breakfast, we drove a little while North along the East Coast in search of what the forecast hinted at the possibility of waves. To our delightful surprise, there they were; waves patiently awaiting our arrival.

It did not take us long to be snuggled into our wetsuits, and doing push ups on the beach to warm ourselves off, before running into New Zealand’s cold blue water. Ah, how exhilarating!

The waves were big enough to surf, but small enough that I felt comfortable trying for the first time, the second-hand board we had got me off marketplace. It was so much fun; we rode some waves, had a laugh, and Mahiran kindly towed me with his leash after I got tumbled on repeat.

We returned home to some chai, relaxed, and then baked Lisa’s staple vegan quiche for dinner.

With some effort, we took ourselves out of the comfort of home and drove to Ponsonby – Auckland’s chique nightlife part of town – for a drink. Surprisingly, we bumped into Mahiran’s work colleagues and joined them for a beer. It was good fun, but we were also ready for dreamland when our heads hit the pillow.

Post our pick-nick lunch on some rocks we headed back to city life – another successful outing on this beautiful Island.

Another highlight is our garden (well mostly Mahiran’s). It is flourishing, apparently loving ‘spring’. We have an array of vegetables, greens, strawberries, and flowers peaking, bringing joy to our daily lives. And to the curiosity of our neighbors, who have all commented about our quick garden endeavors hahah.

Something else worth noting is that Mahiran has been offered the opportunity of doing a paid three year apprenticeship at Daily Breads to become a fully certified baker. He has not decided what he wants to do as three years is a long time to be in one place. But we will see and take it month by month for now. I am however, so proud of how quickly he has immersed himself into a professional baking environment impressing everyone (I think including himself 😉 )
