New Air
Month one zoomed by like a cargo train – loud, jam packed, bumpy, but always cruising forward, exploring new terrains as it speeds across the country towards its unknown destination.
Arriving in New Zealand, we dove right into the hectic tasks of settling into a new country. Amongst others, we were getting sim cards, setting up a bank account, looking for a house, going to house viewings, looking for a car, orienting ourselves, job hunting, buying second hand sexy road bikes, visiting Mahiran’s family, taking advantage of having a friend’s car and ‘time’ to explore New Zealand, enjoying the Northshore while we were there – and don’t worry as always, quality time, good food, and sport were also incorporated into the busy days.
For me a couple of events stood out most:
To start with, going to the Coromandel was soul nourishing.
Poetry from my sunrise walk along the Whangamata’s bay:
I am living my best life.
The Coromandel, one of earth’s many blazing hearts.
Nooks and crannies etched with bare rocks armouring crystal bays full of raw energy.
The light here pierces my heart and washes my soul.
It’s here. It’s now. And it’s so real.
Thank you mama earth.
Love.
Flames of the rising sun caress my outer body bringing warmth within.
Waves flamboyant spitting mist.
The sands gently caressed, a cleansing for a new day.
Here you will find me.
Secondly, Mahiran got a job as a baker at a bakery we randomly walked into and which turned out to be New Zealand’s best up and coming bakery, Daily Breads. No official apprenticeship, no paperwork, nor diploma – that’s what genuine energy, confidence, and a little bit of a plunge into the dark can get you. A great gig, with humane management, and free darn good bread.
